COSAS DEL 69: Ian Palach

COSAS DEL 69: Ian Palach

ENGLISH FOR KUBA

Just in my way to remember the events of the 1969, I’m telling about Ian Palach’s death, the Czechoslovak student who had doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire, in protest of the Russian occupation of Czechoslovakia and the purging of the members of the Prague Spring movement. Raymond Depardon was in Prague, and recorded to 800,000 mourners gathered to form a long, impressive cortege as forceful evidence that Palach was not alone in his protest. He understood the historical significance of this event and arrived in time to immortalize the memorial gathering, specially in the minute’s silence. Right now “Ian Palach” is a cult documentary.

Jan Palach
